Revoke a Lasting Power of Attorney

If you no longer want your LPA, you can cancel it while you are able to make that decision yourself. Fifty Six Law checks your instructions privately, prepares the deed of revocation for you to sign, and then tells everyone who needs to know.

Start your revocation

£180 including VAT (£150 plus VAT), or £90 alongside new LPAs made with us.

What is included

  • A private check of the donor’s instructions by Fifty Six Law, including a recorded identity check and, where our checks call for it, a conversation with the donor alone.
  • The deed of revocation for each LPA being revoked, prepared for the donor to sign, with a signing guide.
  • A covering letter to the Office of the Public Guardian enclosing the signed deed and the original LPA, where the LPA is registered or an application is waiting.
  • Letters telling each attorney and replacement attorney that the LPA has been revoked.
  • Letters to the organisations recorded in the donor’s LPA Hub that had the LPA.
  • Posting those letters, or printing them for the donor to post, with each one tracked.
  • Updating the LPA Hub: attorney access closed and the records kept, read only.
  • A written confirmation of everything done, and an update when the Office of the Public Guardian confirms the cancellation.

Not included

  • Disputes with attorneys or anyone else, and any claim about how an attorney acted.
  • Applications to, or proceedings in, the Court of Protection.
  • Reporting a concern about an attorney to the Office of the Public Guardian or a safeguarding team, unless separately agreed.
  • Making new LPAs, which is a separate service.
  • Postage outside the United Kingdom and certified copies, unless separately agreed.

How it works

  1. Answer a few private questions. Your attorneys cannot see them.
  2. Pay, and confirm your identity with Yoti, our identity checking provider. If you cannot use Yoti, our team checks it on a short video call.
  3. Fifty Six Law reviews your instructions. If anything suggests we should speak first, we call you on your own and confirm the fee in writing before you pay.
  4. Sign the deed in front of one witness and post it back to us.
  5. We send it to the Office of the Public Guardian, write to your attorneys and organisations, and send you a written confirmation.

You may not need to revoke

An attorney who wants to stop can step down without the LPA ending. If an attorney has died or cannot act, the others or a replacement can often carry on. If you want different attorneys or different instructions, you would make a new LPA and then revoke this one. The first page of the service explains each option before you start.

Only the person who made the LPA can revoke it. If you are an attorney, please speak to the donor or contact our team.
